In counselling, confidentiality is crucial. It's the cornerstone of a trusting relationship between therapist and client, ensuring you feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings. Rest assured, everything we discuss in our sessions is completely private and will remain confidential unless you decide to share that information. Your clinical notes and our communications are securely stored in your file. In line with CRPO regulations, I will keep your counselling records for 10 years, or 10 years from your 18th birthday.
Important Exceptions to Confidentiality
While your privacy is a top priority, there are certain situations where confidentiality may be limited:
- If you indicate a plan or intent to harm yourself or others.
- If there is a suspicion that a child under 16 is at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- If your records are requested by a court subpoena.
